On 25 September 2024, the George Mason chapter held a dinner meeting at the Arlington-Fairfax Elk’s Lodge to induct a new member, overview outcomes from the Semi-Annual VASSAR meeting, and receive updates on the Major William Lindsay grave marker project that we are co-sponsoring.
On 23 October 2024, the George Mason chapter held a dinner meeting at the Arlington-Fairfax Elk’s Lodge where we presented Public Service medals to honor 3 local Arlington Police, Fire, and EMS/EMT officers whose professional service in the line of duty this year was exemplary. The 3 honorees were chosen by their Arlington County Department heads.
On 16 Nov 2024, representatives of the George Mason chapter attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Lorton, VA, at the cemetery marker of Revolutionary War Patriot Major William Lindsay. This was an event joint with several local DAR chapters that were co-sponsors. A brief summary of Major Lindsay’s patriotic service and his home called Laurel Hill is described in an Eagle project documentary that is posted on our George Mason Chapter website.
On 14 Dec 2024, the George Mason chapter held a joint luncheon meeting with the neighboring George Washington chapter, at the Mount Vernon Country Club, to install next year’s officers and induct a few new Compatriot members. As part of the program, we were privileged to hear remarks from VASSAR President Dr. William “Bill” Greaf.
