In February 2023, the chapter was pleased to enter its high school student winner of the SAR’s Joseph S. Rumbaugh historical oration contest in the state-wide Virginia Society Sons of the American Revolution (VASSAR) competition, along with winners from other SAR chapters in Virginia. This state-wide contest was an in-person event on Feb. 11, 2023, in South Boston, VA. At that event, our George Mason Chapter applicant placed second in the state!

At the 10-12 Feb. 2023 annual meeting of the VirginiA Society, Sons of the American Revolution (VASSAR) in South Boston, VA, our George Mason Chapter earned various Chapter awards.
Also in February 2023, Chapter representatives were active at the following events:
- The Feb. 11 national society historic event sponsored by the Dan River Chapter commemorating the 242nd anniversary of the Crossing of the Dan, in South Boston, VA (we presented our chapter wreath);
- A Feb. 18 Grave Marking ceremony honoring Patriot Phillip Richard Fendall, sponsored by our neighboring George Washington chapter in historic downtown Alexandria;
- A Feb. 20 joint SAR/DAR wreath laying ceremony for an Unknown Revolutionary Soldier at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Old Town Alexandria, followed by the George Washington Birthday Parade, also in Alexandria;
- A Feb. 22 dinner meeting featuring a book author, David O. Smith, who discussed his latest book about his patriot ancestors; and
- On Feb. 23, the Commemoration of the 1766 Leedstown Resolutions, sponsored by the James Monroe Chapter, in Oak Grove, VA.
