On 24 January 2024, the George Mason chapter held a dinner meeting at the Arlington-Fairfax Elk’s Lodge in Fairfax, Virginia, to hear from speaker Marc Robinson about General Daniel Morgan’s role at the Battle of Cowpens in January 1781.
On 9 – 10 February 2024, our George Mason chapter’s Joseph S. Rumbaugh historical oration contest winner presented his speech at the Annual Meeting of the Virginia Society, Sons of the American Revolution (VASSAR), where he placed third in the state. Also at that meeting, our chapter earned various awards.
On 27 March 2024, the George Mason chapter held a dinner meeting at the Arlington-Fairfax Elk’s Lodge in Fairfax, Virginia, to hear from speaker Ross Schwalm about Armies of Foreign Mercenaries – Dispelling the Myth of the Hessians.
On 22 May 2024, the George Mason chapter held a dinner meeting at the Army-Navy Country Club Fairfax Clubhouse in Fairfax, Virginia, to hear from speaker Michael Ariano about the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina.
On 26 May 2024, the George Mason chapter hosted an SAR Gold Good Citizenship Medal Award ceremony at Gunston Hall in Lorton, Virginia, where John Dodd, President General of the National Society, SAR, presented Enes Kanter Freedom the SAR Gold Good Citizenship Medal.
On 8 June 2024, the George Mason chapter hosted a Commemoration of the 248th Anniversary of the Virginia Declaration of Rights, principally authored by our chapter’s namesake George Mason, at a ceremony at Gunston Hall in Lorton, Virginia. This event was coordinated with the Gunston Hall Foundation on their “Declaration Day” and was well attended by representatives from the SAR, DAR, CAR, the OFPA, the General Society of the War of 1812, the Sons and Daughters of the Virginia Founding Fathers, the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, the Daughters of the War of 1812, and the Daughters of the American Colonist.
